To add a ride to the calendar, use the add-ride form or click on the "+" sign to the right of the date you want for the ride. Alternatively, contact the club's Web Editor.

Before leading a ride, download a copy of the Ride Waiver form. Have all participants read and sign this form.

After the ride, please fax or e-mail the completed form to the Ride Coordinator using the contact information at the bottom of the Ride Waiver form. (Or contact the Ride Coordinator for an address if you need to use snail mail.)

ALL RIDES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE.

Rides are open to all club members, visitors, and guests. To ensure that you enjoy club rides, be sure to pick rides appropriate for your riding ability. Rides are classified by pace and terrain. If you are taking your first club ride, be safe and underestimate your ability. If you are unsure about a particular ride, contact the ride leader, who can provide more information about the ride and the expected difficulty. Helmets are required on all rides, and lights are required on night rides. Each rider should carry money for an emergency call and appropriate equipment (spare tube or patch kit, pump, water, food, and so forth).

Come join us for an exciting ride down to Palo Alto. We'll start at Peet's in the Castro and head over to Wanderson and Bill's in Dally City. Then we'll sort a route down to Palo Alto where we'll have lunch at that falafel place that we like. See you then!

Jersey Ride

This is the official monthly club ride for all members (guests are always welcome). The ride offers different distance and level options where once a month all DSSF club members can get out, ride and socialize with the club. The ride starts from Peet's in the Castro. There are three options so you can go at your own pace and distance so please pick the appropriate option to your level of ability, we want to make sure you enjoy the day. The rides split and regroup in Tiburon where we have lunch together as a group. This ride is usually on the second Saturday of each month; however there are a couple of exceptions for special events (see the calendar).

Turn off at the end of the Sausalito bike path and go directly into Tiburon where the other riders will join you for lunch. You can ride back to San Francisco (or take the ferry to avoid climbing the Sausalito hill). This option is recommended for those who are newer to road cycling.

This is a real fun loop with spectacular views! From Sausalito you have a small climb over Camino Alto before you head out and around the Tiburon Peninsula. This ride is recommended for the intermediate rider or for those who don't feel like the more strenuous third option.

Split off from the group and make the climb up Conzelman in the Marin Headlands then climb up that small canyon, McCullough Road before heading back out to Sausalito to ride the Tiburon Loop. This is the faster paced, more advanced option with extra hills and mileage.
Meet At: Peet's Coffee in the Castro (16th and Market Streets). Please arrive between 8:30am and 8:45am for ride sign-up. Ride leaves at 9:00am.

Social A Ride: Midpeninsula Meander to the Prolific Oven

This month our Social A Ride heads to the Midpeninsula for a meander through Portola Valley and Los Altos. We’ll meet at the Stanford Shopping Center and head up Sand Hill Road to do the Midpeninsula’s most popular ride, the Portola Loop. Our route has easy and short rollers with just two moderate grades, Sand Hill (5%) and Elena (7%). We will make a short diversion out to Cañada Road before rejoining the Portola Loop. After the Portola Loop we’ll roll down Alpine Road and take the Arastradero cut-off over to Elena Road in Los Altos before returning on Foothill Expressway to downtown Palo Alto for a delicious lunch with heavenly baked goods for a well-earned dessert. This is a no-drop ride.

Meet at 9:45 a.m. with a 10 a.m. departure.

2017 DSSF Membership Kickoff and Social

Come join us for the 2017 DSSF MEMBERSHIP KICKOFF and SOCIAL on Tuesday, Feb 21, in the Grotto (lower level) at Sports Basement, 1590 Bryant St, San Francisco.

As usual, we have a great evening planned: free food and drinks, information about club events for 2017, informative speakers, shopping at Sports Basement with a 15% discount, and a room full of awesome people who love to talk about cycling. This is a great opportunity to meet the new Board members, socialize with your cycling buddies, make some new friends, and treat yourself to some of that awesome new cycling gear that you deserve.

This year a representative from Team San Francisco will be talking about the upcoming Gay Games in Paris from August 4 to 12, 2018. Registration for the Gay Games has already begun, and the earlier you register the lower your cost will be. Come learn about what is being planned for Paris and how you can participate either as a competitor or a volunteer!

2017 SADDLE CHALLENGE

The 2017 Different Spokes Saddle Challenge is on!!!

The Saddle Challenge is our annual event, during the month of March, where members can challenge each other (and themselves) to get out on their bikes and ride. You choose your own mileage goal for the month, whether it be 25 miles, 100 miles or 800 miles, it's your goal! Then use the Saddle Challenge Web page to log your mileage, watch your own progress, and see how other members are doing.

Historically, the Saddle Challenge has also been a way for members to raise money for Project Inform. Project Inform, is a non-profit based in San Francisco that provides information, inspiration, and advocacy for people with HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis C. You can find more information about the life-saving work they do here:

You can choose to pledge per mile, or as a lump sum, and this is entirely optional. No one is required to pledge money in order to participate. At the end of the month, we will ask those members who did pledge to mail a check (made out to Project Inform) to the DSSF post office box, so we can donate all money raised on behalf of Different Spokes.

We also encourage riders to find sponsors who are willing to donate on their behalf. Sponsors can donate a lump sum, per mile, or per mile with a cap. One of the benefits of donating through the Saddle Challenge is that unlike many other fund raising events, the Saddle Challenge has absolutely no overhead. That means 100% of your tax deductible contribution goes directly to Project Inform – not 70%, not 80%, not 90%, but 100%.

To register, enter your first and last names and the password: SC2017. Then, set your own mileage goals for the month of March. You will also have the opportunity to make your own pledge (per mile or lump sum) to Project Inform, but this is strictly optional.
