Stinson Beach has been a regular club ride since the beginning. Its heyday was in the mid-Aughts when it seemed like every month there was a club ride led by either Rico, Jeremy, or Wanderson. Since then its popularity has ebbed perhaps because the car traffic to Muir Woods has increased. We’re taking the ‘standard’ route to Stinson, Highway One, and returning over Pan Toll, which should be quieter. Highway One has a climb up to the turn off for Mt. Tam, a great descent to Muir Beach, and then a steep but short climb up the cliffs overlooking the Pacific to Stinson. After refreshment at the Stinson Beach Market we’ll ascend Panoramic Highway to Pan Toll. This climb averages 7% but has short pitches in double digits. From Pan Toll it’s a fast descent back to Sausalito!
If you have less time and want a shorter ride, we’ll pass by Mike’s Bikes in Sausalito where you can join the San Francisco riders. This shortens the ride to around 27 miles but keeps almost all the climbing.
Bring snacks and water. Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly, as Stinson might be warm and sunny or fogged in and chilly.
