Our rides are getting progressively harder now. While the distance is around the same as last week, we're throwing in a thousand feet more of climbing. From Glen Park we'll ride through the south parts of the city and then up to the top of Radio Road. If you've never done this before, be prepared - it's not a walk in the park. The descent is lots of fun, then we'll ride through Colma to the bay, and back up roads by the bay to the Mission. Your reward is ice cream at
Humphry Slocombe on Harrison near 24th near the end of the ride.
Please note that this ride typically originates from Destination Baking Company but it's now closed on Sundays. So we're changing that: we'll leave from Canyon Market on Diamond where you can get a coffee and a bit to eat if you want. Canyon has been bought by Gus' Community Market and I'm not sure what the signage will be. But if you see signs for Canyon Market or Gus' Community Market, you're in the right place.
We'll check the weather in the morning and if there's a 30% chance of rain, will cancel and let those who are registered know. So please preregister.
This is the third ride in a 2024 winter/spring series to help people gear up for late spring and summer riding, including the Wine Country Century, AIDS/LifeCycle, or your first metric or century of the year or ever! We'll have longer and more difficult rides as the series progresses. We'll ride routes all over the Bay Area. Most routes will be without a whole lot of stop signs and lights. We'll try not to ride in the rain, and there won't be a safety speech.
Don't have a car but want to come? Post a message to the Spokers forum on dssf.org and see if another member can help you out. You can easily get to the ride start on BART, though.
Meals: we'll play it by ear, but there will be an ice cream stop near the end of the ride. You might want to bring a snack.
Sweeps? No
Is this a "no rider left behind" ride? No, but we will have a few regroups. We will keep an eye out for each other but if you are a new rider please either know the route or bring a map in case you get dropped from the group.
