This route is the original 1984 “Sonoma Blossom” ride and is a shorter than the Apple Blossom route in 2019. The apple orchards may be dwindling in southern Sonoma county but we still go back for the blossoms come spring. But we are going there later than usual so whether we'll see blossoms in uncertain. Sonoma used to be the center of Gravenstein apple production and there are a few remaining orchards--Gabriel Farms, Ratzlaff Ranch, and Pleasant Hill Farm--that we will pass today. Starting in Sebastopol we head south along bumpy county farm roads before heading west and up and down short but steep hills all the way to Occidental. There we’ll stop to refuel before heading back to Sebastopol on a mostly downhill return.
In Occidental we will probably stop for an outdoor meal at the
Union Hotel, which has an outdoor dining area. But it's Mothers Day so it may be busy. If it's too crowded we can instead get a delicious burrito at
El Mariachi or a sandwich at either Gonnella’s Market or the Bohemian Market, all of which are nearby. Or, you can bring your own lunch!
Bring water and snacks. Check the weather beforehand and dress accordingly.
Meet at 10 AM with ride out at 10:15 AM
