Different Spokes/San Francisco, along with the nascent San Francisco AIDS Foundation, started the AIDS Bike-A-Thon in 1985, when there was a lack of funding at all for AIDS service organizations. Our club ran this event for ten years and raised approximately $2.3 million for AIDS charities.
We'll ride across the Golden Gate Bridge and to Mill Valley, with a regroup at Equator Coffee. For the short route, this is the turnaround point. Then we'll start up Mt Tamalpais, with another regroup at Four Corners. The medium group will turn left to head back. For the long group, we'll continue up Mt Tam, reaching East Peak. It's a long downhill then follow Ridgecrest across the "seven sisters", then down Fairfax-Bolinas to Alpine Dam. We'll climb up over the next fill for a final regroup at Fairfax for lunch, and then head back to SF.
As always, bring water and a snack, along with your helmet, and an extra tube and tire changing kit.
We'll check the weather in the morning and if there's a 30% chance of rain, will cancel and let those who are registered know. So please preregister.
Sweeps? No
Is this a "no rider left behind" ride? No, but we will have a few regroups. We will keep an eye out for each other but if you are a new rider, please either know the route or bring a map in case you get dropped from the group.
Lunch: TBD in Fairfax at mile 44.
