Winter/Spring Series #8 - Old La Honda -- CANCELED DUE TO FORECAST RAIN

Distance: 17.3 mi.
Elevation gain: 1,950 ft.
Pace: B (moderate, occasional stops)
Terrain: 4 (hills, some steep climbs, with some relief)

Meet up at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM ride out
GPS file, map, and cue sheet here

Old La Honda is one of the signature climbs in the Bay Area. It's a good measuring stick for us as we move to the climbing part of this ride series.

This is the point in the series where we start climbing more. For this ride, we'll dial the miles way back as we start to concentrate on our climbing. We'll add miles and more climbing in the weeks ahead.

Meet up at the parking lot in downtown Woodside. Then we'll ride south through Woodside and take Portola Road over to Old La Honda. Then, we climb, 1,300 feet up to Skyline Drive. After a well-earned rest at the top, we'll cross Skyline and do the part of Old La Honda south of Skyline. There are normally no cars on this beautiful stretch of road. When we get to Highway 84, we'll turn right, and take it all the way back into Woodside, with a short stop for snacks and water at Skyline. Lunch at Roberts Market after the ride for those who would like to grab a bite.

This is the 8th ride in a 2023 winter/spring series to help people gear up for late spring and summer riding, including the Chico Wildflower ride, AIDS/LifeCycle or your first metric or century of the year, or ever! We'll have longer and more difficult rides as the series progresses. We'll ride routes all over the Bay Area. Most routes will be without a whole lot of stop signs and lights. We'll try not to ride in the rain, and there won't be a safety speech.

Don't have a car but want to come? Post a message to the Spokers forum on dssf.org and see if another member can help you out.

Meals: Roberts Market for lunch in Woodside after the ride. Snacks at the intersection of Hwy 84 and Skyline. Bring a snack for this one.

Sweeps? No

Is this a "no rider left behind" ride? No, but we will have a few regroups. We will keep an eye out for each other but if you are a new rider please either know the route or bring a map in case you get dropped from the group.
